Pete Nowlen

Pete is an international prize-winning French horn soloist and an active orchestral and chamber musician, having performed with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet Orchestras and the International Orchestra of Italy amongst others. He is also the founder, Artistic Director, and driving force of the Vocal & Instrumental Teaching Artist (VITA) Academy in Sacramento.  The Academy provides music and music education to underserved communities and school children while guiding emerging professional musicians on a viable and rewarding career path as music teaching artists.

For several years, Mr. Nowlen performed regularly as principal hornist of the International Orchestra of Italy, performing and recording in Italy’s finest theaters. In 1992 he was third-prize winner of the International Competition for Solo Horn of the Castle of Duino, Italy.
As the Artistic Director of Camerata California Chamber Chorus, the Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra, the San Francisco Gay/Lesbian Freedom Band, and the CalCap Chamber Music Workshop, Pete brings his passion for making beautiful music full circle as he inspires adult musicians to a continued life in music. In 2013, he was appointed Artistic Advisor of Music in the Mountains in Nevada County. Summerfest 2015, June 17-July 5, will be the second Summerfest for which he has designed the program.
